Alibaba Starts Onboading NZ Suppliers onto the GS1 National Product Catalogue
The move from Alibaba - signalled in September 2017 - to adopt GS1 global standards for product data is important for NZ’s current exporters and suppliers of products locally might want to get into exporting via Alibaba’s platforms. They are reaching out to NZ suppliers via GS1 NZ starting 16 December 2017.
Alibaba is moving to require certain brands in the categories of Health Food, Maternal and Child, Beauty and Make-up and Personal care to provide product information via the Global Data Synchronisation Network - the local node of which is the GS1 National Product Catalogue (NPC).
The CEO of GS1 NZ, Peter Stevens comments "For suppliers already on the NPC, there will be the opportunity to target their product offerings to Alibaba. Similarly, for data recipients on the NPC now such as Foodstuffs, Countdown, Mitre 10, ITM and the public healthcare system, Alibaba’s move will provide momentum and expand the range of suppliers and products on the NPC. Everybody wins!”.
