GS1 New Zealand appoints Jenny Langton as Head of Healthcare

GS1 New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Jenny Langton, Head of Healthcare. The Head of Healthcare role is a further step in our commitment to positively impact patient care, asset identification, and location identification in the Healthcare sector. The new role will focus on strengthening and building new and existing relationships across the sector and continue the development of the Health System Catalogue alongside Te Whatu Ora.

Opportunities for standardisation in healthcare

Using a common, standardised language across the health sector to identify assets and locations will lead to better patient outcomes and enhance decision making. Commenting on standardisation in Healthcare, Jenny says “When you know you’ve got the right person, the right equipment, the right medicines, then you’re automatically in a better place for getting a better outcome for that patient. That has powerful potential for reducing harm and gives people confidence in the services that they receive.”

Speaking about how data insights can support decision makers, Jenny says “The health system exists to help support people to have better healthier lives. To do that you need to have better information about the conditions people might experience, the people providing care, the locations of care, and the products you use, and data sits under all of those things. This role really resonates with my belief in the power of data to help us make good decisions and deliver better outcomes for people while using resources wisely.”

Jenny’s background

Jenny comes to GS1 NZ with a strong background in healthcare. Following a Bachelor of Pharmacy at Otago University, Jenny began her career as a hospital and community pharmacist. After completing a Masters in Public Health, she held policy roles at Ministry of Health and Pharmac before joining Te Whatu Ora/Capital and Coast District Health Board where her focus was primary care, long term conditions, and the health of older people. Jenny’s experience and relationships in the health sector mean she is well placed to lead GS1 NZ’s involvement in the healthcare sector.

GS1 is committed to helping deliver positive change in the healthcare system in New Zealand using GS1 standards and solutions. We look forward to further development and innovation in the healthcare sector with Jenny Langton as Head of Healthcare.
