RFID Thought Leaders: Meet the NZ RFID Pathfinder Group
RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is a technology that uses radio waves to identify and track objects. It has diverse applications worldwide, including inventory management, logistics, and contactless payments. The global RFID market has experienced remarkable growth due to its efficiency and convenience over technologies such as barcodes.
In New Zealand, the not-for-profit NZ RFID Pathfinder group, plays a crucial role. They are a collective of independent industry experts exploring innovative RFID applications in sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation. The group was established in 2006 to educate the NZ market on RFID about the opportunities RFID might offer NZ business. Given the explosion of RFID use globally (a predicted 88 billion tags will be used in 2026), Pathfinder’s role has evolved to provide neutral advice on RFID implementation in New Zealand.
The group has installed an RFID Demonstrator at GS1’s Auckland office that is open to anyone interested in trying RFID to discover what opportunities might be uncovered.
